HOW RESILIENT CHANNEL WORKS
Resilient channel is a thin metal channel that is screwed to wall studs or ceiling joists. Drywall is then attached to the channel rather than directly to the framing. This creates a spring-like isolation layer that absorbs and dampens sound vibration before it can travel through the wall or ceiling structure.
When combined with acoustic batt insulation (mineral wool) in the cavity, resilient channel assemblies achieve the sound transmission ratings required by the Ontario Building Code for party walls and floor/ceiling assemblies in multi-residential buildings.
