HOW intumescent COATING WORKS
Intumescent fire coating is a thin-film paint-like coating applied to structural steel. At normal temperatures it looks and feels like a regular paint finish. When exposed to fire temperatures, the coating reacts and expands up to 50 times its original thickness — forming a thick, insulating foam-like char layer that protects the steel underneath from reaching its critical failure temperature.
